Residents look for ways to beat the heat as temperatures soar in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — With the heat index getting well past 100 degrees this weekend across Central Florida, community groups are teaming up to make sure people have a way to beat the heat and take this seriously.

The Christian Service Center in Orlando has had a tent out the past year to help protect people from the elements, but what’s new now are these fans and those coolers.

Channel 9 spoke with people in the area, who said a little kindness goes a long way this weekend.

The social services group provides help for those in need, and the biggest necessity this week has been ways to keep cool.

People can now stop by any day of the week for some shade, cold water and in the evenings, a hot meal.

First Presbyterian also helps out with “Compassion Corner,” where people can also sit in the air conditioning.
