ORLANDO, Fla. — After deliberating for less than 90 minutes, a six-person jury declared Nelson Odige guilty in a series of attacks on women waiting at bus stops around Pine Hills.

He was convicted of sexual battery with a deadly weapon. Sentencing is scheduled for May 21.

Dubbed the “Pine Hills Bus Stop Rapist,” prosecutors argued that Odige attacked four women as they waited for buses between January and February 2023. The case drew area-wide attention as details emerged about the attacks, causing women to be wary as they left for work.

Odige was caught in a matter of weeks.

The man took the stand in his own defense hours before the verdict was read. He was summarily attacked by prosecutors for his ever-changing story.

“After working an all-night shift at a seafood warehouse you’re looking for strangers to talk to them?” the prosecutor asked. “She got mad because you didn’t pull her pants down?”

Odige faces life in prison, although the judge indicated he’d be examining the possible sentence for leniency. The jury found that Odige did not have a gun when he attacked the women, and this was his first conviction.

Neither prosecutors nor Odige’s attorneys offered a statement after the verdict was read.
