Reporter

Nick Papantonis joined the WPXI team in June 2026 as an investigative reporter, returning to Pennsylvania after nine years of reporting across the southeastern United States. Nick has spent much of his career focusing on local government, police and school accountability. His investigations led to the creation of new police officer safety laws and revised school rating systems in South Carolina, the latter of which won his station a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. In Florida, his work exposed alleged abuse by a city commissioner, canceled a planned highway project and uncovered $5 million in misspent funding that was earmarked for election security and operations, all of which was eventually returned to taxpayers. Nick’s career began in the Keystone State’s Northern Tier, which included severe weather coverage in Scranton. Nick is a graduate of Syracuse University. He lives with his wife in northern Allegheny County and spends his time outside of work gardening, going for walks and bike rides and cheering on Boston-based sports teams (sorry!).
