Nick Papantonis joined Eyewitness News as a reporter in June 2021. Before moving to Central Florida, Papantonis spent four years reporting for WPDE in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. During his time in the Palmetto State, he routinely broke stories about public safety and political misconduct. His report about disparities in the state education system won a Regional Murrow award in 2020. Papantonis’ background in data journalism helped him lead the state’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was also ranked by the National Press Photographer’s Association for his long-form visual storytelling. Papantonis previously worked for WBNG in Binghamton, New York, where he covered snow storms and April the Giraffe. He grew up in Boston, attended Syracuse University and continues to enjoy having his hopes crushed every basketball season. Outside of work, Papantonis can often be found on a beach, in a park or on a tennis court.
