Gun detected on campus by OPENGATE

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The campus of Cocoa High School is safe after the OPENGATE Weapons Detection system quickly detected a student trying to enter the campus with a weapon this morning.

According to a statement issued by the Brevard Public Schools, all students and school staff on campus are safe.

The weapon was immediately confiscated, and the student was placed in police custody.

OPENGATE automatically begins screening people with luggage, backpacks and bookbags for threat detection in this scenario.

It continues by stating, “We understand how upsetting this news is but are fortunate to have these systems available on our campus to ensure our students’ safety,” said Janet R. Murnaghan, Chief Strategic Communications Officer.
