ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — A Florida couple who own a sushi restaurant in Rockledge has been accused of scamming seniors out of thousands of dollars across multiple states, according to police in Wisconsin.
The Elm Grove Police Department in Wisconsin has been investigating the alleged scams since 2023, linking the couple to fraudulent activities involving gift cards and money transfers.
Mei Dong and Dong Dong Ye, owners of Da Sushi on Barnes Boulevard in Rockledge, were arrested by Brevard County deputies in late June.
Both suspects have bonded out of jail in Florida but must appear before a judge in Wisconsin to face theft and false representation charges. The exact date of their court appearance remains unclear.
A 76-year-old man reported to Wisconsin police that his computer went dark and a Windows message told him to call a number. He was allegedly instructed to buy Lowe’s and Home Depot gift cards totaling $4,300 and wire $10,000 to a California bank to fix it.
Investigators traced gift card purchases on the Space Coast, reviewed surveillance video and receipts, linking transactions to Dong Dong Ye, who owned Da Sushi in Rockledge.
At Da Sushi, Mei Dong declined to comment on the allegations, but an employee expressed disbelief, suggesting that the police might be targeting the wrong individuals.
As the investigation continues, it remains uncertain whether additional charges will be filed against the couple.
Law enforcement states that their upcoming court appearance in Wisconsin will be a crucial step in addressing the allegations.
