The Colorado Rockies selected 18-year-old high school shortstop Brendan Rodgers with the No. 3 pick in the Major League Baseball draft on Monday night. It's the first time the team has gone the shortstop route with its top pick since taking Troy Tulowitzki at No. 7 in 2005. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Rodgers played for Lake Mary High School in Florida, where he hit .360 with eight homers and 23 RBIs in 2015. He also turned 15 double plays. Last summer, Rodgers took part in the Under Armour All-American Game. Bill Schmidt, the Rockies' vice president of scouting, says Rodgers "stood out last summer as one of the better high school players in this draft." The opening three picks in the 2015 draft were all shortstops.
