ORLANDO, Fla. — American Red Cross is on the ground in Southern California, where severe wildfires continue to hit the state this week, forcing thousands of evacuations.

More than 200 trained Red Cross disaster workers nationwide are helping with more on the way, including several from Central Florida.

Local volunteers have traveled (by air) to Los Angeles to support relief operations for at least two weeks.
- Frank Hall, Tampa Bay Chapter, assigned to logistics and distribution of emergency supplies
- Marjorie Pedro, USVI Chapter based in St. Croix, assigned to sheltering
- Gwendolyn O’Garrow, USVI Chapter based in St. Croix, assigned to sheltering
- Jim Martin, Greater Orlando Chapter based in Orlando, assigned to sheltering
- Jerry Salsburg, Greater Orlando Chapter based in Orlando, assigned to sheltering.
Today, hundreds of evacuees have woken up in emergency shelters, many of whom are struggling after losing everything.
The Red Cross works closely with our partners to provide those in need with safe shelter, food, emotional support, and other critical services.

The threat isn’t over. As the situation evolves, people must remain vigilant, prepare to evacuate and follow directives from local authorities.
