The 26-year-old musician, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, was scheduled to perform Saturday at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and at the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom next month, Variety reported.

“Hi guys,” she wrote on Twitter and in a post to her Instagram story on Friday. “I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately, I have to have surgery on my tonsils ASAP. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

In several graphic tweets on Thursday, Doja Cat hinted at pulling out of performing this summer, Billboard reported.

“Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil,” she wrote in one of more than a half dozen tweets. “I had an abscess in it. my whole throat is (expletive) so I might have some bad news for y’all coming soon.”

The inactivity might be a blessing for the singer.

She has made multiple appearances on recent award shows and was a featured performer at last month’s Coachella festival, Variety reported. The rapper also released her third album, “Planet Her,” during the summer of 2021.

The album was named Billboard’s top R&B album for 2021, and Doja Cat picked up the award during last weekend’s Billboard Music Awards.

The singer has sold more than 12 million albums and singles worldwide. According to Billboard, Doja Cat has six top-10 hits and a No. 1 song -- “Say So” in 2020 -- on the R&B/hip-hop charts. Two songs -- “You Right” in 2021 and this year’s “Woman” -- peaked at No. 2.
