The Coalition says in June, an alumna tweeted about sexual abuse she experienced at the Osceola County School for the Arts.

Afterwards, almost a hundred people came forward with similar stories.

During Tuesday’s meeting, board members said they’ve talked about the allegations, but implementing change takes time.

Some people had suggestions on how to make those changes.

“We want a new reporting system. We want resources on campus. We want a Title 9 coordinator, and to improve sexual education for students as a preventative measure,” former student Olivia Tyndall said at the meeting.

In a statement, the school district tasked the students to come up with a reporting system that their peers would feel comfortable using.

The school district’s statement goes on to note the the sexual abuse allegations in question are many years old and that the school board and superintendent are working collaboratively with the students on the issue.

The students have two weeks to submit their plan to the district’s attorney who will review it and present it to the school board.
