Video shows Ormond Beach police officer knock woman to the ground

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Newly released video shows the incident that led to felony battery charges against a former Ormond Beach police officer.

Ormond Beach police recently released video footage of former officer Jacob Cannon throwing a woman in custody to the ground during a DUI investigation on December 6, 2024.

The incident involved Shanna McRee, who was being asked to blow into a breathalyzer.

When she stood up and did not sit back down as instructed, Cannon is seen slamming her to the ground.

According to an affidavit, McRee sustained seven stitches due to the incident.

Cannon was arrested in February on felony battery charges and had been placed on administrative leave prior to resigning from the police department shortly before his arrest.

The arrest affidavit revealed that he misled first responders about the circumstances of McRee’s injury, claiming she slipped and fell.

Police Chief Jesse Godfrey stated that Cannon violated eight department policies, including negligence and excessive use of force.

Channel 9 reached out to Cannon’s attorney but has not received a response.

Court records indicate his next court date is scheduled for August.
