‘They didn’t protect my property’: Woman’s car stolen at off-site airport parking lot

ORLANDO, Fla — A woman who tried to save some money using an off-site airport parking lot could end up losing thousands of dollars. She paid to have her car parked at Orange Airport Parking on Patch Road while she flew out of Orlando International Airport. When she returned, she learned her car had been stolen.

Orange Airport Parking promotes itself as “the largest local and private airport parking company in Orlando.” Action 9 Consumer Investigator Jeff Deal went to Orange Airport Parking to ask questions after receiving a consumer complaint from Jacqueline Delaney.

“I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, I hope my car is okay by the time I get back,’” said Delaney as she described the day she dropped it off before her flight.

You can tell from her description Delaney didn’t have a good feeling about it, so she took a video of her Jeep Cherokee at the lot. It was the holiday season and she knew the airport would be packed.

She said, “I don’t want to leave my car here. I’m going to miss my flight. What am I going to do?”

She took her chances and left the car, then took the shuttle to the airport for her flight.

At the time, she hadn’t seen the ratings or read any reviews for Orange Airport Parking which has just over 1-star on both Google and Yelp.

‘We feel really let down by Volkswagen’: VW all-electric SUV in shop more than 7 months

One woman on Yelp wrote she found her car full of “cat fur, cat piss and guess what: A cat inside.” On Google, a man wrote “the worst decision not only my car was stolen other people’s car was stolen.”

That one was all too familiar for Jacqueline Delaney who returned from her trip to a nightmare.

Delaney described her encounter back at the lot while waiting for her car, “So, two hours later he comes back and he says, ‘You’re gonna have to call the police because your car’s not here.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean my car is not here?’”

Two days later, Orlando police found it being driven 3-miles away from the parking lot. They arrested the driver. Inside the car, there were tools, drug paraphernalia and trash. Delaney told Jeff Deal the car doesn’t run.

Deal spoke to the dispatcher in charge of the lot and said, “She paid you guys to protect your car, and you failed to do that.” The dispatcher replied, “Yeah, but I don’t handle any of that information.”

‘Thank God we’re alive’: Kia owner concerned about fuel tank issue

He said the man who runs the business, Fabian Pourrain wasn’t available to answer questions. Pourrain was the same person Action 9 tried to speak with at another airport parking lot in 2023 called BMI Smart Parking on Narcoossee Road.

Back then when Action 9 stopped in to ask about some complaints, a man working at the front counter walked to a back office and returned moments later.

Consumer Investigator Jeff Deal asked, “Who was the guy you were talking to back there?

The employee answered, “He’s the owner of the place.”

Deal showed him a photo of owner Fabian Pourrain and asked, “Fabian?”

The worker answered, “Yeah, but I can’t annoy him with this.”

Deal followed up and questioned, “He won’t come out here and talk to us about it? The employee said, “Yeah, no.”

Customers at that location complained the company lost their keys or locked them inside the cars.

Deal asked one of those customers, Joe Alves, “What would you tell anybody who’s thinking about leaving their car there.” Alves answered, “Don’t do it.”

BMI Smart Parking has since closed down, but the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had responded out there 186 times over a two-year period for things like vehicle burglaries and verbal altercations. Fourteen cars had been reported stolen in that time frame.

Now, it appears there are problems impacting consumers at Orange Airport Parking.

Jeff Deal asked the dispatcher, “Will you guys cover her costs? She’s having to pay a $2,000 deductible for the damage to her car that was supposed to be protected by you.”

The dispatcher answered, “I don’t handle any of that information.”

Jacqueline Delaney said, “I paid them for a service. They didn’t give me a service. They didn’t protect my property.”

It’s important to check reviews before booking any service like this.

Fabian Pourrain later responded by email letting Action 9 Consumer Investigator Jeff Deal know he doesn’t believe this is something that concerns Action 9 and believes it’s a delicate situation that involves police and lawyers. He also wrote that his lot is completely protected with fences, gates, nighttime surveillance and 42 cameras that are recording around the clock.

No word yet on if he’ll help Jacqueline Delaney.
