Meir Kay, a filmmaker and founder of the “Super Soul Party” has set out to make sure people in Central Florida get to experience the sense of community that comes from enjoying the game with friends and family.

“I realized that for someone who doesn’t have family or community, this can be a painful time where they feel even more lonely,” Kay said.

Kay got the idea for the Super Soul Party in 2017 when he invited six homeless people in New York City to watch the game with him.

His video of that event went viral, and the idea has spread just as fast to communities all over the country, including Orlando.

In addition to a place to watch the game, Super Soul Party attendees are also treated to a meal, a haircut, clean clothes, and connections to services or other people who may help.

“It’s stigmas being broken down,” Kay said. “People realizing that, hey, these are human beings…these are people with stories, with families, and they were once someone’s child, and for people to view themselves, people who are experiencing homelessness to realize, hey, I am deserving of a loving connection.”

Orlando’s Super Soul Party will be held at Exploria stadium starting at noon on Super Bowl Sunday.

It’s the first year for the event in Orlando, but organizers are expecting it to be the biggest Super Soul Party ever with about 500 people.

The event is made possible by volunteers like Yehudis Milchstein, who is now the program director for Super Soul Parties.

“What does it take to make these parties happen? Very little sleep, a lot of coffee, and so many volunteers, so many passionate, excited individuals,” Michstein said.
