Police: Holly Hill homeowner confronts, shoots alleged thief in Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach shooting investigation Police said a Holly Hill homeowner shot an alleged thief in nearby Ormond Beach Tuesday morning.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Police said an alleged theft at a Holly Hill home Tuesday morning led to a shooting in nearby Ormond Beach.

The Ormond Beach Police Department said officers responded around 8 a.m. to a report of a person shot along Seville Street.

OBPD told Channel 9 that detectives determined that a fight about a possible theft began at a Holly Hill home and then carried over into the city of Ormond Beach.

That’s where one person shot another person in the area of Seville Street and Alcazar Avenue, police said.

Eyewitness News also received information about the case from Holly Hill Police Department.

HHPD said the reported theft happened at a residence on Granada Street near Daytona Avenue.

Investigators said the homeowner, armed with a gun, soon located and confronted the alleged thief at the Seville Street location in Ormond Beach.

The homeowner fired a round and struck the alleged thief in the leg, police said.

The distance between the two crime scenes in separate cities is only about half a mile.

Police said the injured person is being treated at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ormond Beach police said the suspected shooter is being questioned about the incident and the investigation is continuing.
