ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department reported that an officer-involved shooting occurred Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 4620 Cason Cove Drive.
The shooting took place around 5:47 p.m., after OPD received 911 calls about a man holding a gun inside a 7-Eleven store on Conroy Road, in the 4500 block. Witnesses stated that the suspect was waving the gun at people in the parking lot of a nearby strip plaza.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect holding the gun inside a nearby dry cleaner.
Officers said when they arrived at the scene, they found the suspect in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
According to police, they told the suspect multiple times, in both English and Spanish, to drop the weapon.
Police said the suspect did not comply, and as a result, he was shot and later pronounced dead.
Investigators have since revealed that the gun the suspect was holding was a simulated weapon.
Orlando Police said the suspect has a criminal history, including miscellaneous drug and traffic charges, as well as charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and possession of cocaine.
