Port Canaveral commissioners approve new cruise line agreement bringing more passengers

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Port Canaveral Commissioners just approved a deal with Norwegian Cruise Line that will double the number of NCL voyages departing from this port.

Canaveral Port Authority CEO Capt. John Murray said, “So, they’re looking to grow their business at Port Canaveral, and with this new agreement, does this allows them to ramp up over the next three years from almost a full year’s worth of calls to actually having steady year-round services.”

He also told us, some of that growth is contingent upon the construction of a new cruise terminal.

The port was forced to scrap plans to repurpose north cargo berth 8.  Now, port officials are looking to the south side of the port.

In the meantime, the port plans to move forward with design work at cruise terminal five looking at enlarging the existing terminal by up to 50,000 square feet to accommodate bigger ships with more passengers.

The port estimates it will see 8.9 million passenger movements next year.
