POLK COUNTY, Fla. — In response to a concerned citizen call, a Haines City Police officer arrested a DUI driver behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level 6.5 times the legal limit.

After failed attempts to awaken him, Officer Bruner found a way to make contact with the driver to discover that the vehicle was in gear, the driver’s foot was on the brake and multiple bottles of alcohol remained consumed inside the vehicle.

Officers report that Miguel Rodriguez was charged with one count of DUI after a hospital test confirmed dangerously high levels of alcohol in his system.

“This incident underscores the serious dangers of driving under the influence,” said Police Chief Greg Goreck.

Goreck continues, “We are grateful for the citizen who contacted law enforcement and that no one was injured. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our roads safe from impaired drivers and will hold Mr. Rodriguez accountable for his actions.”
