Police: Leesburg High student arrested after K-9 detected a firearm on campus.

LEESBURG, Fla. — A freshman at Leesburg High School was arrested after a firearm was found in their backpack Thursday, according to Leesburg Police.

WATCH CHANNEL 9 EYEWITNESS NEWS

LPD responded to Leesburg High School for a routine scheduled visit to walk areas of the campus with their K9.

K9 Samba alerted to a backpack in the media room, where students were absent at the time. It was in an area where students usually leave their belongings.

A search of the backpack later revealed a loaded Glock 9MM handgun that was stolen out of Lake County, along with three vapes and a cigar.

The alert led to the felony arrest of the student by the LPD.

This incident is still an active investigation.
