The Palm Coast Fire Department and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on Seattle Trail in the Seminole Woods neighborhood just before 3:40 pm on Monday.

According to Palm Coast Fire Chief, Kyle Berryhill, the block of ice was more 6 feet long and 3 feet wide in some places. He told Channel 9 a witness watched the ice seemingly fall from the sky before it crashed through the metal roof of a home and landed in the street.

“A chunk of ice that is size of a person could cause tremendous injury be fatal,” said Berryhill.

According to Berryhill, no one was inside the home when the ice came crashing down, and luckily no one was injured.

Data from Flight Radar show two commercial planes flew over the Seminole Woods neighborhood less than 5 minutes before the first 911 call came in to report the falling ice.

Aviation experts note water may leak out and form ice on the outside of an aircraft. As the aircraft descends and the temperature warms, the ice can melt and fall off.

So far what caused the ice to fall has not been determined, but the FAA is now investigating.
