The $25 million project, entirely funded by philanthropy, was celebrated during an event on Friday.

Home to Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center, Orlando Health ORMC now boasts a significantly enhanced facility aimed at providing faster, more efficient care.

The redesign more than doubles the size of the hospital’s Trauma Bay and introduces numerous improvements to meet the needs of the growing community.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community for their generosity and support of the emergency and trauma care that we provide,” said Kelly Nierstedt, president of Orlando Health ORMC. “There is no telling when an emergency is going to happen. With our newly renovated emergency department, we are here, ready to provide compassionate, quality healthcare when our community needs it the most.”

Key upgrades include four new EMS transfer bays, an enlarged ambulance entrance, two new CT scanners, and redesigned nurse stations. Enhancements to Air Care Communications and the overall environment of care were also part of the project, aimed at improving efficiency and patient outcomes.

Dr. Jay Ladde, emergency medicine physician and senior associate program director of Emergency Medicine, highlighted the impact of the renovations, noting the trauma team can now add 10 treatment areas during a mass casualty event. “This incredible renovation will help us help our patients on what is often their worst day,” he said.

The newly expanded Trauma Bay and state-of-the-art facilities ensure Orlando Health ORMC is equipped to provide lifesaving care for years to come.
