A former movie theater in downtown Orlando may see an opportunity for new life in another form.

The CMX Plaza Cinema Cafe 12 at 155 S. Orange Ave. has been closed since late February or early March, according to a recorded movie schedule for the theater. Escalators and stairways to the theater are blocked.

CMX Cinemas Plaza Cafe 12 movie theater was formerly owned by Cobb Theatres and had 12 screens and roughly 58,000 square feet of space. The theateroriginally opened in 2009and received $6 million from the city of Orlando’s community redevelopment agency to help with buildout.
