Busy Orange County intersection could get overhaul, some concerned over new route

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — There’s a push to ease traffic tensions at a very busy Orange County intersection.

Channel 9 has told you how easily the traffic can back up along Orange Avenue near Gatlin and Holden Avenue in Edgewood.

Currently there are three proposals on the table. One plan, that many people are concerned about, would eliminate several acres of green space and destroy about 60 oak trees.

“There’s one where we can fix the lighting and get the timing done with FDOT. There’s one that cuts through the park and there’s one that takes homes on the Gaitlin side,” said Commissioner Mayra Uribe.

The city of Edgewood submitted a proposal to the county for the second alternative. Plans show a realigning of Holden Avenue with Gatlin Avenue.

The current Holden Avenue and Orange Avenue intersection would be eliminated, so instead of two three-way intersections, there would be one four-way intersection.

That road would run right through Cypress Grove Park, eliminating at least four acres of green space.

There is a public meeting to discuss this issue on Tuesday night at Oak Ridge High School at 6 p.m.
