Orange County to make renewed push for transportation improvement funding

ORLANDO, Fla. — Leaders in Orange County will launch yet another campaign for transportation improvements that could appear on the next election ballot.

This would be at least the third effort being made to make the improvements.

Leaders have been on the record saying they want more projects like this.

New bus terminals, SunRail lines, better roads, sidewalks, and bike paths.

However, they do not have a way to pay for the billions of dollars in improvements.

The grand plan was to pass a “penny sales tax” a couple of years ago to fund these projects. Voters shot it down.

They renewed the effort last year, but it fell apart when some commissioners said the county couldn’t rush it.

So, the mayor has called for a visioning session so everyone can put their ideas on the table.

Things are just getting started, and so far, there is no planned path forward, list of projects, timelines, or costs.
