OCALA, Fla. — An apartment fire chased a family from their Ocala home Thursday night.

Around 9 p.m., firefighters responded to Berkley Pointe Apartments on NE 7th Street.
Ocala Fire Rescue officials said crews arrived to find black smoke pouring from a first floor apartment.

OFR said while the residents had safely evacuated the burning unit, the family cat was still inside.
As crews sprayed down flames outside the building, other firefighters went inside the smoky unit where they located and rescued the cat.

Officials said the fire displaced one adult and two children but they were unhurt.
Investigators said they determined that the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
