DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed is set to become Bethune-Cookman University’s next head football coach.

The HBCU’s Athletics Department announced Tuesday it had reached an agreement “in principle” to make Reed its 16th head football coach.

He’ll replace former Head Coach Terry Sims who the program parted ways with after seven seasons.

The Wildcats finished the 2022 season with a 2-9 record, tied for last place in the East Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished with the same record in 2021.

Reed has been on the University of Miami’s football staff as a senior advisor since 2020.
Regarded as one of the best defensive backs in National Football League history, Reed played 12 seasons, most notably with the Baltimore Ravens, earning nine Pro Bowl selections.

He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2019.
The university has not said when they’ll officially introduce Reed as the new coach.
