MOUNT DORA, Fla. — The Mount Dora Police Department launched a new bike patrol on Thursday, Jan. 23 to enhance their policing.

According to MDPD, the bike patrol will expand patrol coverage in areas that are challenging to navigate with standard vehicles, including downtown districts, residential neighborhoods, and bustling public spaces.
The officers in the bike patrol unit will be equipped with advanced mountain bikes that are both durable and adaptable across various terrains.

These bikes feature red and blue lights for increased visibility and sirens for audible alerts in busy environments.
“Our bike patrol initiative is a significant step toward enhancing community policing,” said Michael Gibson, Chief of the Mount Dora Police Department. “By increasing our visibility and approachability, we hope to build trust, deter crime, and ensure that our residents and visitors feel safe and connected to their local police force.”
