ORLANDO, Fla. — DeMorris Hunter, 59, was sentenced to death for the 2002 murder of a College Park woman during a hearing that started at 9:15 a.m. in an Orange County courtroom. Jurors recommended the death penalty after approximately seven hours of deliberation.
In April, a jury convicted Hunter of first-degree murder in the 2002 killing of Theresa Green in College Park.
Investigators said Green’s body was found in the trunk of an abandoned car in a Sanford parking lot in May 2002.
A date has not yet been set for his execution.
Authorities said Hunter was identified as a suspect after evidence was collected from Green’s apartment and neighbors were interviewed in College Park.
Investigators reported that Hunter left Central Florida shortly after the killing, leaving the case unsolved for years. He has been incarcerated since 2002 after being arrested for a murder in Oakland, California, which occurred two months prior to Green’s death.
He is serving life for that crime.
