TAVARES, Fla. — The attorney for Andre Walker, the man accused in the deadly torture of 10-year-old Xavier Williams, says his client has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including the new second-degree murder charge.
Walker faces several charges, including child neglect and tempering with evidence. The murder charge was added last week after Xavier died following almost a month in critical condition.
Williams was scheduled to be arraigned at the Lake County Courthouse Monday morning, but his attorney filed a waiver for that court appearance, so he was not present.
His girlfriend and co-defendant Kimberley Mills, who is the boy’s mother, had a court hearing scheduled for Monday as well, but she recently waived her arraignment, court records show.
Mills pleaded not guilty to all charges last week.
Tavares police said the couple used 10-pound weighs, a copper wire, a flashlight and other tools to torture the boy and his younger brother.
They was arrested in late February after dropping Xavier off at the hospital.
A funeral service for Xavier is scheduled for April 26 in Connecticut.
