LONGWOOD, Fla. — Longwood city commissioners are set to decide the future of one of Central Florida’s oldest homes.
The Lewis House, built in 1886, is still trying to find a permanent location.
The house has been moved throughout the city over the years. It’s currently located behind the Longwood police station.
The commissioners will consider whether the historic home should be relocated to a park to become a visitor’s center or handed over to a local developer.
Both options would cost the city $120,000. The developer, who has restored several other historic properties in the city, would fix the property up and rent it out as housing.
The city is also working with Lyman High School to see if leaders have interest in becoming involved with the house’s restoration.
Prior plans to move the house and restore it have been scrubbed because of the cost.
The discussion is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
