Student brought loaded gun to Eustis High School, police say

EUSTIS, Fla. — Parents are relieved that no one was injured at Eustis High School after a student bought a loaded gun to school.

According to Eustis Police Chief Craig Capri, a 17-year-old was vaping in the bathroom when students saw a gun in his backpack. The kids then told school administrators about the weapon.

Officers say the student told them he had a loaded 40-caliber Smith & Wesson and that he brought the gun to school for protection because he’s had some issues with other students.

Investigators say that gun was loaded.

A parent, Zebulon Van Culin, said he’s proud of the students that spoke out.

“Grateful that since someone did see something, that they said something, and didn’t just keep it to themselves. Snitches get stitches-type thing. And that the administration did step up real quick and was able to take care of the situation,” he said.

Officers say the student was taken to the hospital with marijuana in his system. Eustis police officers say he was arrested.

The investigation continues.
