ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after an officer with the Orlando Police Department shot a suspect near a gas station in Orlando
4:30 p.m. Update:
According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, officers responded to a suspicious person call at the BP gas station near John Young Parkway and Old Winter Garden Road.

When officers arrived, they encountered a man carrying a gun.
Officers gave multiple commands to the suspect to drop the gun - the suspect refused and was shot by an officer.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Smith said the suspect was released from prison in 2023 after serving 20 years for second-degree murder.

The officer involved in this shooting was not injured and will be on paid administrative leave.
Orlando police will release more information regarding this incident and the suspect, including the charges he will face, as they continue to complete their investigation.

Eyewitness News is monitoring a scene involving a large law enforcement presence, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orlando Police Department.

Police responded to the area near the Circle K on John Young Parkway just off State Road 408.
Northbound JYP is shut down near Old Winter Garden Road.
