ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is taking a bigger role in immigration enforcement efforts around the state.

Over the weekend, troopers helped federal agents in Fort Myers.
Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state signed an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security for troopers to begin enforcing immigration law.
State leaders are also planning to increase trooper’s pay in the next budget in an effort to recruit more troopers.
