FHP: Woman dies after car collides with semi-truck in east Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers say a woman died after she crashed her car into a semi-truck whose driver was trying to cross State Road 520 in east Orange County.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near Christmas.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said the collision occurred after a semi truck exited eastbound State Road 528 onto SR-520.

Troopers said the driver of the semi, after stopping at a stop sign, proceeded across the eastbound lanes of SR-520 and onto the paved median area in an attempt to turn left onto westbound SR-520.

Meantime, a Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on SR-520 under the SR-528 overpass. Investigators said the driver did not see the semi-truck ahead that was blocking her lane. Troopers said the front of her car collided with the rear of the the truck’s trailer.

The woman, 24, of Palm Bay, died after being rushed to Orlando Health-Randal Park, FHP said.

Troopers said the driver of the semi, 61, of Orlando, was not hurt and remained on scene following the crash.

FHP has not released names of those involved in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
