WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — The family of a man shot while riding an ATV in Orange County has hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump.

Investigators said that on Feb 20, 32-year-old Ja’Keem Williams was shot and killed by Ralph Hensel while riding his ATV through a Winter Garden neighborhood.

Surveillance video showed that Hensel, 57, walked from the leasing office area, waited for Williams, and shot him as he rode by.

According to the police report, witnesses stated that they saw the suspect walking toward the ATV with a gun, heard shouting followed by two gunshots, and then heard the suspect as he walked back toward the office saying, “I killed him.”

Hensel was booked in the Orange County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.

The JUNETEENTH Project Coalition will host a peaceful rally outside of the Bay Point Apartments in Winter Garden today, Friday, at 4 p.m.

The group is calling on the apartment complex for answers and cooperation for Ja’Keem Williams.

“If he had been threatening them before and they did nothing about it then Ja’Keem’s blood is on their hands too. The question is who else has accountability in this matter,” Crump said during a Friday morning press conference.

The City of Winter Garden has scheduled two grief counseling sessions to assist the community with this tragic case:

  • Saturday, March 1st @ Noon - Dream Center 1136 East Plant Street Winter Garden - Hosted by Aspire Health Partners
  • Tuesday, March 4th @ 4:00 PM - Dream Center 1136 East Plant Street Winter Garden - Hosted by Devereaux Advanced Behavioral Health

“Our detectives continue to work on the investigation and are building a strong case against Hensel. We are working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure that all aspects of the investigation are covered,” said Winter Park Police Captian Scott Allen.

Investigators have a meeting with the State Attorney’s Office next week to review the case file with the prosecuting attorney.
