LIVE UPDATES: Universal celebrates grand opening of Epic Universe

ORLANDO, Fla. — The grand opening of Universal Epic Universe on Thursday signals a new era in high-tech theme park attractions in Central Florida.

10:10 a.m. update:

Universal Orlando Resort shared new images as the first official guests gathered at the 5 portals to enter the different lands in Epic Universe.

Channel 9 crews said many of the first parkgoers started their journey at the fan-favorite Nintendo World.

Many in attendance are sporting their love for Nintendo with hats, shirts and other accessories featuring videogame flair.

8:20 a.m. update:

Channel 9 reporters Q McCray and Sam Martello confirmed from inside that Epic Universe opened its portals to guests ahead of schedule.

The park was set to fully open at 9 a.m., but parkgoers were surprised to find that the portals to the five unique worlds inside Epic Universe opened early.

The excitement inside the new theme park is electric.

Though thousands have already previewed the park, those in attendance say they can feel the energy on opening day.

7:15 a.m. update:

Along with all of the fun of a new theme park comes a big focus on keeping guests safe.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office sent out a special message on Epic Universe’s opening day to assure parkgoers that their safety is a top priority.

“Our team will be working with Epic Universe’s security personnel to ensure that residents, visitors, and travelers enjoy a safe and seamless journey through every adventure portal,” the sheriff’s office said on social media.

6:30 a.m. update:

The first parkgoers are starting to enter the park.

Thousands are streaming in from the parking area and through the main entrance of the park.

The park is officially set to open at 9 a.m., following a special event at 8 a.m. to mark the milestone.
