DeSantis reaches deals with feds, deputizing troopers to enforce federal immigration laws

ORLANDO, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced an agreement between Federal Immigration Enforcement Authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol.

That means state law enforcement agency officers will now have the authority to enforce federal immigration laws when making arrests for traffic violations or other offenses.

This will essentially deputize FHP troopers to interrogate and arrest undocumented individuals in the state.

It’s called interior enforcement.

Texas was first state to make this agreement, Florida is now the second.

DeSantis said that this is to help President Trump with his campaign promises.

The governor also said that he has not reached an agreement for Florida Republicans and is still waiting on an immigration bill.
