Deputies shoot man threatening to kill himself and family, Sheriff says

WILFREDO MORALES

POINCIANA, Fla. — Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd held a press conference to speak about a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Poinciana today.

Sheriff Judd says that a deputy was dispatched to an attempted suicide call, when he came upon a woman standing near a car, speaking to someone in the garage.

The woman, who would later be identified as the shooter’s wife, would be signaled over by the officer to get to safety.

That is when the suspect, Wilfredo Morales, would emerge from the garage and begin to fire at his wife and the deputy.

Morales would retreat into his house, where SWAT officers would then respond to the scene.

After multiple different tries to get Morales to turn himself in, he would motion SWAT members into the garage before turning the gun towards officers.

Morales was shot and is in extremely critical condition at a local Osceola trauma center.

Nobody else was injured in the situation.
