ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida is in for a significant weather change this weekend as an approaching cold front brings showers, storms and potentially damaging wind gusts to the region.
Temperatures will remain warm on Friday, with highs reaching the upper 80s to low 90s.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to return late in the day ahead of the approaching front.
The front is forecast to move through Central Florida Saturday morning, bringing widespread wet weather and strengthening winds across the area.
The strongest winds are expected Sunday, when gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph across portions of Central Florida.
Wind advisories are likely for large portions of the region over the weekend, with additional advisories possible within the next 24 hours.
Along the coast, a gale watch has already been issued as strong winds are expected to create hazardous marine conditions.
The combination of strong winds and rough ocean conditions will make for especially dangerous surf this weekend.
Waves are forecast to build to between 9 and 14 feet, with the highest wave heights expected Sunday and Monday.
The rough surf and powerful currents could pose a serious risk to swimmers, surfers and anyone visiting the beach.
