CENTRAL FLORIDA — After a long, quiet stretch, we are monitoring two areas of interest in the open Atlantic.
The first area is a tropical wave now exiting the west coast of Africa.
This complex could organize further mid to late next week, and the National Hurricane Center is giving this area a 20% chance of development.
A second area is a wave currently over western Africa that will move into the eastern Atlantic on Tuesday.
This system could organize mid to late next week, and the National Hurricane Center now gives it a 40% chance of development.
The complex could become a tropical depression late next week.
Many computer models now indicate that both systems could develop, but the second system is more aggressive in its development.
One model, the European, is developing a depression or possible tropical storm in the open Atlantic by late next week.
There is plenty of time to watch both systems as they will remain out in the open Atlantic.
Right now, neither system is a threat to any landmass over the next several days.
