200 Marines will deploy to Florida to support ICE with administrative and logistical tasks

Orange County leaders to discuss agreement with ICE on immigration enforcement

ORLANDO, Fla. — On Thursday, the United States Northern Command announced that approximately 200 Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 are being deployed to Florida to provide administrative and logistical support to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The deployment was initiated following a request from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on May 9 and received approval from the Secretary of Defense. Officials state that this decision is part of a wider mobilization of up to 700 military personnel under Title 10 authority to support ICE operations.

These Marines are the first wave of support from U.S. Northern Command for this ICE mission. Additional support locations include Louisiana and Texas.

The service members in this mission are tasked with performing strictly non-law enforcement duties within ICE facilities. Their roles concentrate on administrative and logistical tasks and they are barred from direct contact with individuals in ICE custody or involvement in the custody chain.

Authorities state that this deployment seeks to improve ICE’s operational abilities while ensuring military personnel stay within their assigned support roles.
