COCOA, Fla. — Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said a gunfight in Cocoa sent a toddler to the hospital Tuesday.
Ivey said happened around 1:30 p.m. outside a store around near Catalina Drive and South Burnett Road.
He said a man and woman were pushing the child in a stroller and went into the store. That’s when a black Mercedes pulled up outside and several people got out.
He said after the man and woman went back outside, the shootout started with several people coming around the corner.
“Roughly 50 rounds were fired between three subjects that were shooting toward the male and the female and the baby,” the sheriff said.
Ivey said the woman ran off when the shooting started and returned to the stroller after it stopped.
The toddler was struck once in the pelvic area. The child was rushed into surgery and is in stable condition, Ivey said.
Deputies have identified one of the people involved and are looking for all of the subjects and the vehicle.
“This appears to be an ongoing feud. We’re not sure what that feud was about,” Ivey said.
