Lions take on Nashville SC Tuesday night in round one of MLS playoffs

ORLANDO, Fla — Orlando City will meet Nashville SC Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in Nashville in the first round of the Major League Soccer playoffs.

This is the fourth meeting of the season, with the three previous games ending in draws.

The last meeting on Halloween ended with a controversial goal, with no goal call but an MLS referee decision.

In the late minutes of stoppage time, a free kick outside the box by Pato bounced off the frame of the goal, bounced around the front of the goalie, and was eventually tapped in by Andres Perea.

After review, MLS referee Allen Chapman went to VAR and eventually took the goal away. In a post game interview, the referee said the Lions’ Daryl Dike had fouled Nashville’s Alistair Johnston as the two scrambled for the ball in front of the goal before the goal was scored.

But tonight there will be no draw. One of them will be moving on to play the Philadelphia Union in round 2 on Sunday, Nov. 28.

The Lions enter the postseason for only the second time in club history, having finished the regular season 13-12-9.

While Nashville, also makes back-to-back postseason appearances after finishing the regular season at 12-18-4.
