Woman dies, others injured after police chase leads to Lake County crash, troopers say

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. — A woman has died following a police pursuit and crash in Fruitland Park, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4 p.m. Saturday in Lake County.

According to a news release, a Hyundai sedan had been fleeing from the Lady Lake Police Department at high speeds, causing them to lose sight of the car.

Investigators said the Hyundai was driving recklessly northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441, and while traveling southbound, the car collided with a Kia SUV.

The 35-year-old driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 43-year-old driver of the Kia was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Crews also transported two teen passengers in the Kia to the hospital with minor injuries.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
