Cold weather continues across Central Florida, with warmer temps just around the corner

ORLANDO, Fla. — It’s another weather alert day in Central Florida as some of the coldest temperatures in years have moved in to the area. Download the free WFTV weather app and read updates below:

9:15 a.m. Update:

All of Central Florida is above freezing temperatures Sunday morning.

We will continue to see temperatures to climb in to the 50s as the day moves on.

As we move into the week, expect temperature warming up even more, reaching the 70s and 80s by Thursday.

6:15 a.m. update

There are wind chill advisories in place for the Volusia and Brevard County coast lines with wind chills ranging from the mid to upper 20s into the low 30s.

The coldest air of the day is expected to arrive around 7 a.m.

Temperatures will climb to the mid 40s by mid day Sunday with highs reaching the upper 50s.

Temperatures will fall into the 30s overnight Sunday with a warming trend beginning Monday that will continue through the rest of the week with temperatures in the 80s by Thursday and Friday.

4:45 a.m. update:

The National Weather Service issued a hard freeze warning for Marion County Sunday morning.

The warning will be in effect until 9 a.m. and includes portions of southeast Georgia as temperatures have fallen to as low as 20 degrees in some areas.

The National Weather Service also issued a frost advisory for Brevard County Sunday that could last into Monday morning.

Temperatures in the low to mid 30s could result in the formation of widespread frost, mainly inland from Interstate 95.

The National Weather Service advises residents to take steps in advance to prevent freezing and bursting of outdoor water pipes by draining them or allowing them to drip slowly.

10:20 p.m. update:

The freeze has begun in earnest in rural areas of Central Florida.

A hard freeze warning is also in effect for some areas.

Orlando will drop to near 30 degrees by daybreak Sunday.

Hourly observations are showing lots of 30s and rural sites will be near or below freezing overnight.

5 p.m. update:

Central Florida is preparing for the coldest night since January 2018.

Freeze warnings have been issued for all counties along with hard freeze warnings for parts of Osceola, Polk, Lake, Marion, Sumter and inland Volusia and Flagler counties.

A wind chill advisory remains at the coast for Sunday morning, with a “feels like” temperature around 21 to 30 degrees.

The cold may set records on Sunday for Orlando, Melbourne and Sanford.

The only “fly in the ointment” for getting record cold temperatures is the fact that the winds won’t die down completely overnight.

Normally, this makes it harder for radiational cooling to be maximized, and thus Central Florida will tend to stay warmer than it would if the winds were calm.

Downtown Orlando will be near 32 degrees but will avoid a hard freeze.

12:35 p.m. update:

Look for temperatures to begin dropping as we move into the afternoon with wind chills increasing as we head into the evening.

Expect winds from 10 to 20 mph with the potential for gusts up to 30 mph.

As we head into the overnight hours, temperatures will drop to the mid-30s around midnight.

10:35 a.m. update:

Sunny and cold today with highs only reaching the upper 40s and low 50s.

It gets even colder tonight with freeze warnings and hard freeze warnings in effect for several counties.

8:25 a.m. update:

“It is going to be windy, it is going to be gusty and it’s going to be cold,” Channel 9 meteorologist Kassandra Crimi said of Saturday’s forecast.

7:15 a.m. update:

Dozens of flights have been canceled at Orlando International Airport because of winter weather all across the East Coast.

So far 80 flights until 1 p.m. have been canceled in or out of OIA. Click here to read more.

6:15 a.m. update:

It’s windy and cold across Central Florida this morning. Temperatures are in the upper 30s and 40s, but wind chill values are widespread in the 30s.

There is a a wind chill advisory in place until 10 a.m. Channel 9 meteorologist Kassandra Crimi said we can expect wind chills to remain in the 30s until around noon.

This afternoon, it will be sunny, cold, and windy with highs in the 40s for most.

Tonight, freezing temperatures are forecasted for all of Central Florida.

A hard freeze warning has been issued for interior Flagler, interior Volusia, northern Lake, Marion and Sumter counties, and a freeze warning has been issued for the remainder of the area.

Saturday night’s lows range from 24 to 32 degrees.

5:35 a.m. update:

It’s not often that temperatures dip near freezing in Central Florida, but when they do, it’s important to prepare your outdoor plants for the cold.

4:45 a.m. update:

Most of Central Florida is bracing for a widespread freeze that is forecast to blanket Florida late Saturday night through mid-morning Sunday.

Weather models show this could be the coldest temperatures since 2018, and possibly record breaking.

Saturday will be cold and windy. The high is 49 degrees.

Sunday will feature the coldest weather we’ve seen in years. It will be in the 20s and 30s across Central Florida — a widespread freeze.
