Residents return after more Daytona Beach Shores condos checked for structural concerns

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — People at Central Florida’s coast are continuing to get back on their feet following the impact of Hurricane Nicole.

Many people at the beaches were forced out of their homes when Nicole hit.

After some buildings in the Daytona Beach Shores area were evacuated over structural concerns, some residents are starting to move back in.

Engineers have been working over the weekend to inspect some oceanfront condo buildings.

Dozens of buildings along the coast were considered at risk of collapsing, so residents were forced out.

Three Daytona Beach Shores condos reopened Sunday after being deemed safe to live in: Castaways Beach Resort, Towers Grande and Curran Shores South.

Neighbors told Channel 9 it’s a big relief.

There are still several condos that need to be evaluated by engineers.

The Daytona Beach Shores public safety director said no more emergency services will be provided at properties where people did not obey evacuation orders.
