OAKLAND, Fla. — Town of Oakland Police Chief John Peek has resigned after two years on the job.
Peek submitted his resignation letter Tuesday, the same day the Orange County Sheriff’s Office agreed to investigate complaints against him and Lt. Angela Campbell.

Sgt. Estid Lima is a former Oakland police officer who says the environment created by Lt. Campbell was so bad, he filed complaints and eventually resigned to get away from it.
“Hostile, abuse, abusive type of environment, sexual in nature, inappropriate,” Sgt. Lima said of his time with the department.
Lima claimed that at office parties, Lt. Campbell gave inappropriate gifts, and on one occasion, while he was on duty, she had him drive her intoxicated friends to a brewery to continue partying.

Lima also claims Lt. Campbell profiled and targeted Hispanic drivers on traffic stops.
“I brought it up to the chief,” Lima said. “He didn’t do anything about it.”
In his complaint against Chief Peek, Lima wrote, “Chief Peek has ignored misconduct ranging to sexual misconduct, harassment and hostile work environment.”
The town has asked the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to do an administrative review of the two complaints to see if the two top ranking leaders violated any department policies.
Town officials say the investigation is not criminal in nature, just an administrative review.

Chief Peek wasn’t made available for comment by the Town of Oakland, as he’s no longer employed by them.
Campbell was unable to comment due to the pending investigation.
