She reflected on President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court.

“Of course, I value diversity. And I’ve always said that in the halls of government, we should reflect the great diversity of this country,” Murphy said. “And it would be great to see a historic, qualified Black woman sit on the Supreme Court.”

Murphy, a Democrat, said she’s confident her Senate colleagues will approve of whoever Biden chooses.

Channel 9 anchor Greg Warmoth also asked Murphy what can be done at higher levels to help people in Central Florida who are dealing with a serious financial issue: the affordable housing crisis.

“I would encourage the state to deploy the resources that the federal government has already given them to help people who are in need today,” Murphy said. “And there’s more that can be done there, that they need to just release the funds, target and distribute in an efficient and effective way to help people today.”

Murphy added that this is going to be a long-term problem, and we shouldn’t expect a quick fix.

Murphy talks more about this and other issues during this week’s episode of Central Florida Spotlight, which airs Sunday at 12:30 p.m. on Channel 9.
