Florida shoppers are stocking up as tax-free hurricane supply break continues

ORLANDO, Fla. — People in Florida still have a few days left to take advantage of the tax-free savings to stock up on supplies as we enter hurricane season.

This year, there are also a few new items on the list.

A lot of people are taking advantage of this, especially now that the first named storm of the season has developed.

New on the list this year are pet supplies – anything from litter boxes to pet food and carriers.

Through this tax-free holiday, you can potentially save hundreds of dollars based on what you buy.

Hunter Walter, a manager at an Ace Hardware in Orlando, said his store has been busy since the tax breaks started.

“It’s crazy, with the inflation, we’re actually making more money now than we were before,” Walter said. “It doesn’t make any sense, but I can see the numbers every day. And believe it or not, people are buying a lot of stuff.”

Walter recommends items like batteries, which can come in handy anytime. He is also seeing people buy a lot of tarps and expensive items like generators.

Shoppers still have five more days to take advantage of the sale, which ends Friday.
