MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Mount Dora city council members have decided not to move forward with a planned development near the downtown area.

The plan involved constructing eight tall buildings in the city.
Initial rezoning for the project was approved back in January.

It would have included a grocery store, a convention center, and senior housing.
But many locals felt it would destroy the small-town feel.

“It just doesn’t make any sense,” a resident said at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“Why would people want to buy and house or have a house built, knowing this is coming in right across the street from them?,” she added.
Just before midnight, the city council voted 5 to 2 to reject the plan.

The developer then said it may pull the application from reconsideration.
