9 things to know about the NFL draft, airing on Channel 9

The upcoming NFL season will begin taking shape over the next few days.

The NFL Draft is Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas, but you can watch it unfold LIVE on Channel 9.

Round one begins at 8 p.m. Thursday. Rounds two and three begin at 7 p.m. Friday and rounds four through seven begin Saturday at noon.

Here are 9 things to know before things kick off Thursday night:

  • The draft consists of seven rounds over three nights. Each of the 32 NFL teams receives an automatic pick in each round.

  • The order of the draft is the opposite order of the teams’ final standings from the previous season.
  • The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first overall pick for the second year in a row because they had the worst record in the league again.
  • The Jaguars selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence from Clemson last year and are expected to go defense this year with Georgia’s defensive end Travon Walker.

  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have six picks this year, including 27th overall. It’s their fewest number of picks since 2017.
  • The Miami Dolphins only have four picks this year. Fewest in the league.
  • The Dolphins do not have a first or second round pick this year. They traded both picks along with their fourth round pick to the Chiefs for WR Tyreek Hill a few weeks ago.

  • Unless they make a trade up, It’s the first time since 2003 the Dolphins won’t make a pick in the first round.
  • Weezer, Ice Cube and Marshmello will perform each night after the draft.
