6 years later: Vigil honors 49 lost in Pulse tragedy

ORLANDO, Fla. — Emotions ran high for those who attended a vigil outside the Pulse Memorial early Sunday, six years after the shooting that changed Orlando’s history.

At 1:58 a.m. Sunday — the exact time the first gunshots rang out — there were hugs, tears and prayers.

June 12 is a difficult reminder of the terror that overtook The City Beautiful in 2016.

But since that time, love, compassion and strength have unified the Central Florida community.

Sunday’s 6th anniversary vigil paid tribute to the 49 people who lost their lives at Pulse nightclub.

And since the vigil, a steady stream of visitors has stopped by the memorial site to look at pictures and reflect.

More Pulse anniversary events continue Sunday in Orlando — including the annual 49 Bells Ceremony at noon at First United Methodist Church and a remembrance ceremony at the Pulse Memorial at 7p.m.
